About Prayer

About Prayer

Prayer is communication between a person and God.

Why should we pray?

  • Clears our vision of what’s important
  • Strengthens our purpose and resolve
  • Quiets our nerves
  • Connects us to God’s spirit
  • Reminds us of our duty, and
  • Fortifies our soul against evil.

Parable of prayer

“The heat and the sun’s rays, falling upon salt water, cause evaporation, which gradually becomes condensed into clouds, which again descend in the form of sweet, fresh water. The salt, and all the other things in the water, are left behind.

In the same way the thoughts and desires of the praying soul rise to heaven like clouds; then the Sun of Righteousness cleanses them from the taint of sin by His purifying rays. The prayer then becomes a great cloud which falls in showers of blessing, life, and strength upon the earth below.”

Through prayer we experience the greatest of all miracles, heaven upon earth.” – Sadhu Sundar Singh

Types of prayer

Supplications – This word means, “To ask humbly, earnestly, or to beseech”. It differs from other forms of prayer in that it petitions the Lord for a specific thing.

Intercessions – The dictionary defines “intercessions” as “to plead on another’s behalf.” Intercession is basically supplication on behalf of someone else.

Thanksgiving – This is often overlooked, but it is a very important type of prayer. We cannot obtain the greatest potential of faith without thanksgiving. Thanking and praising God is a valid and vital prayer!

Prayers for different circumstances

Prayer of Salvation
Dear Lord, I am a sinner and I need your grace and mercy. I believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for my sins and that he rose from the dead. Please forgive me for my sins and come into my life as my Lord and savior. In Jesus name, I pray, Amen

Our Armed Forces
Almighty God, we commend to your gracious care and keeping all the men and women of our armed forces at home and abroad. Defend them day by day with your heavenly grace; strengthen them in their trials and temptations; give them the courage to face the perils which beset them; and grant them a sense of your abiding presence wherever they may be; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
